Collective Mind’s Compass: A new tool for collaboration

We’re building something new and exciting…

What we’re doing

Developing a human-driven, community-based, and AI-empowered tool that provides tailored support to anyone trying to collaborate effectively.

Why we’re doing it

Since our founding in 2019, we’ve worked closely with more than 50 networks and collaboratives around the world, and supported leaders and staff from hundreds more.

This tool seeks to meet the needs we see.

First, we know that everybody working collaboratively has to fulfill some core activities – set shared direction, mobilize the resources to get there, and track progress towards it.

As we’ve seen, almost everybody needs some external support to do these things effectively.

We want to make that external support more accessible, especially at a time when everybody is being asked to do more with less.

Second, we also know that the challenges of collaboration go well beyond these core activities.

Collaboration is complex, and grappling effectively with that complexity in practice is an ongoing challenge for managers and leaders.

We want to support managers and leaders in an ongoing fashion, providing them with diverse ideas and solutions to help them manage the day-to-day more effectively.

How we’ll do it

We’ll design and develop our Compass as a human-driven, community-based, and AI-empowered tool for collaboration.

Human-driven:

  • We’ll co-create the tool with diverse experts, including Co-Creators drawn from our pool of Collective Mind Associates and Collaboration Fellows recruited from around the world.

  • These experts will capture and share the richness of their experiences to feed into the tool’s shared knowledge base.

  • Once launched, these experts will engage directly on the platform, providing expert advice and mutual support in real time.

Community-based:

  • We’ll foster constructive, shared spaces to connect with our experts and each other through discussions, events, and more.

  • We’ll cultivate a mutually supportive environment by facilitating connections and interactions between everyone engaged on the platform.

AI-empowered:

  • We’ll develop AI coaches designed to provide custom support on specific topics, trained on the contributions shared by our Co-Creators and Collaboration Fellows about their diverse experiences.

  • We’ll continuously learn from the interactions on the platform through integrated feedback loops that capture insights and deepen the knowledge base of our AI coaches.

Those who use the Compass once it’s launched in February 2027 will benefit from comprehensive support:

  • AI coaches: Four AI coaches will provide custom support on specific topics – one each on the core activities of 1) strategy, 2) resource mobilization, and 3) monitoring, evaluation, and learning, plus a 4) strengthening collaboration coach for broader and deeper support.

  • Community: The platform will be a private shared space with discussions, chats, and direct messaging.

  • Learning: Guided workflows, training sessions, and short courses will support learning needs, especially on the three core topics (strategy, resource mobilization, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning).

  • Events: We’ll organize regular events such as “office hours” with our expert Co-Creators and Collaboration Fellows for in-depth discussion and troubleshooting.

We’re developing our Compass via an extensive global co-creation process.
