Capacity Building

Collective Mind understands that leading and managing networks require unique skills and strategies to make networks effective and impactful. We provide networks with team-oriented training for network staff, members, and/or other network leadership (e.g. governing bodies) to hone their skills and expand their approaches for successful network leadership and management.

The benefits of capacity building for your network:

Professional development across the network team combines individual skill-building with team development while linking learning directly to the specific context, needs, and objectives of your network and team. We customize our workshops and content to provide a tailored, productive, and outcome-oriented experience in which participants can gain new knowledge and begin to apply it to their work. Your team will cultivate improved approaches through structured learning frameworks and application of content via team exercises and tools.

The specific outcomes of our currently available workshops are outlined below. We can additionally design custom workshops on these or other topics to meet your needs.

  • Our workshops on Shared Purpose and Membership - the foundations of any network - help networks define and articulate their Shared Purpose, link it directly and strategically to their membership, and define a suitable, fit-for-purpose membership model to achieve that Shared Purpose.

  • Our workshops on Facilitation and Coordination - key to effective network management - help network leaders and staff utilize appropriate approaches and hone skills for leading and managing their networks successfully.

  • Our two-part workshop series on Network Leadership defines roles and responsibilities for leadership within a network, approaches for dispersing leadership across a network, and the skills and approaches of successful network leaders.

Who can benefit from capacity building?

Capacity building supports emerging, established, and evolving networks to build team-level capacity around targeted network leadership and management topics to cultivate new competencies and shared language for effective team planning and development. It can also be used to support change management processes and complement strategic planning, leadership transitions, annual training events, and more to ensure effective network operations.

For new networks, capacity building can also help you build skills and hone management approaches as an informal network, a non-traditional network, or an organization transitioning to a network approach.
